Videos

We love making videos here at Swing Zing. Some useful, some silly. Things like…

  • Reference videos of moves we teach in beginner classes

  • Recap videos from class

  • Solo jazz routines (and slowed down versions)

  • Entire online classes

  • Swing related but mostly made just for fun

MOVES TAUGHT IN LINDY 1

Here is a playlist that has a few of the basics and moves essential to every Lindy Hopper. Once you can social dance these moves easily, you are welcome to attend our Lindy 2 classes.

CLASS RECAPS

As often as possible we post class recaps on our YouTube page for free! Subscribe to our YouTube channel to receive an alert every time we post a new video and you can practice the weeks concepts and moves at home.

Solo Jazz Routines

Podcast

Yip, just like every man and his dog, Swing Zing has also started a podcast! Welcome to: Untangling The Mess-a-Round. If you are looking for a high quality, swing dance documentary style podcast, you’re in the wrong place. This is mainly for a bit of fun; but we still do try and make it interesting and, occasionally informative.

When we get the chance we do an episode of Swing Waffle where Charlotte and Jethro go through what is happening at Swing Zing classes as well as talking about other local and international events.

We are also planing on releasing intermittent podcasts about topics that we find interesting. Things like musicality, or what makes a good instructor.

If you want to listen you can find us on Spotify or Apple Podcasts,

LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS

Beginners block: This is a block of classes specifically designed for anyone that has never danced before. We go through the footwork and a few moves each week so that by the end of it you’ll be able to comfortably join in our level 1 classes.

Lindy 1: This is our level 1, beginners drop in classes. If you have done some partner dancing before (jive, rock n roll, salsa etc) or if you have completed out beginner block, these are the classes for you. We train the basics at the start of each class and then teach moves and techniques that you will need for social dancing.

Lindy 2: This is our level 2 or intermediate Lindy Hop class. To do these classes, students must know how to dance all of the moves in the Lindy 1 curriculum. Usually that means going through the 2 month cycle a couple of times before they are ready for these classes (4 - 6 months if they are coming every week).

Lindy 3: These are our nerdy classes. To do these classes students must want to develop their technique and understanding of concepts. We don't focus on fancy moves, we focus on how to do moves. Students must also be accomplished dancers, having danced for more than 2 years, social dance regularly, be able to dance as both a lead and a follow and have danced other styles (like Blues or Balboa).

Balboa 1: This is out level 1 beginner Balboa class where we teach the fundamentals of Balboa. Our Balboa curriculum does build on each class, so if you do want to start coming to these classes, please make sure you come at the start of the month.

Balboa 2: Here is where students develop their Balboa after learning the fundamentals. Once a student has learnt all of the moves in the Balboa Fundamentals curriculum, they are welcome to try this development class.

MUSIC

We have a couple of Spotify playlists that have our favorite songs to teach Lindy Hop, Balboa and Blues to. If you have Spotify, log on and have a listen, if not you can find all of these songs and artists on YouTube or iTunes or in your local record store.
