Jessie Gordon (Swing Zing Instructor)

Jessie Gordon Senior Teacher Swing Zing Dance School

Jessie started Lindy Hopping in 2005 with Swing Zing, having previously had two brief flirtations with ballroom and contemporary jazz dancing during her misspent youth. Jessie discovered the dance through her experience as a big band jazz singer. She is a professional vocalist with three swing/jazz bands, and has a love of vintage 1920s – 1950s swing and blues music. She discovered that there was a dance to accompany her favourite music, and she has been dancing ever since.

Jessie loves many types of swing dance, she is passionate about Lindy Hop and partnered Blues dancing, and is developing her knowledge in solo blues and jazz. In order to have Lindy Hop in as many aspects of her life as possible, Jessie is also studying to complete her PhD in Anthropology and Sociology, looking at contemporary Swing dancing in urban Australia.

As a Lindy Hop and Blues teacher, Jessie believes in creating fun, energetic and accessible classes. Dancing provides people with an opportunity to be physical and expressive in a safe and supportive environment. Lindy Hop provides people with a way to be individually creative within a partnership, while listening to great music and having amounts of fun that are forbidden in some American states.
